Wood Pigeon Shooting

The Wood Pigeon is a wild and challenging bird to shoot. Sometimes referred to as 'poor man's grouse' the bird provides some of the best and most affordable shooting the UK has to offer. They are also easy to cook and delicious to eat.

Depending on the time of year, Wood Pigeon shooting can be split into two camps: 'decoying' and 'roost' shooting.

Shooting over decoys is the most popular method during harvest time, when large numbers of pigeons descend onto freshly cut crop fields to feed on spent seeds and grains.

Shooting pigeons as they come into roost typically takes place during February after the game shooting season and when the trees are bare, allowing clear shots at the pigeons as they enter the woods.
