Wild Duck and Geese

Wildfowling, flighting and daytime ambushes can all provide excellent value shooting opportunities.

The majority of duck and geese, with the exception of Mallard, are migratory, breeding in the far north during the summer months and returning to Britain to overwinter. Common sporting species of duck include Teal, Widgeon, Mallard, Gadwall and Pintail along with Canada, Greylag and Pink-footed geese.

Over the last half century, numbers of geese have increased dramatically, with more and more returning to our shores each year. In general, since the Second World War, wildfowl wintering in Britain are thought to have increased despite the draining of wetlands for agriculture.
